Pardon
our Dust!
Last year’s major building project at the old Woodside site, now
the Rolland-Warner Middle School building, was simply a preview
of more exciting building projects to come.
With the end of classes and the 2008-2009 school year, the
construction projects fueled by the May 2007 bond have kicked
into overdrive. The summer of 2009 will see major construction
and remodeling projects at several school buildings. All are
underway.
A May 20th ground
breaking at Zemmer Junior High School signaled the start of work
to convert the building into Zemmer Middle School by September
2010.
One day after
teachers and students left the halls of Lapeer East and Lapeer
West High Schools on June 11th, workers began the process of
dismantling and renovating science classrooms into
state-of-the-art, 21st Century science laboratories.
A new Lapeer West
weight room and auxiliary gym. Also under construction and are
expected to be complete by the time the students return in the
fall.
No sooner had the
staff and children at Kids & Company at the Cramton Building
departed than workers descended on that site to begin the
process of upgrading classrooms there into a new home for the
students at Lapeer Community High School. The new gymnasium at
Cramton was completed last winter.
With students gone
from the Rolland-Warner site for the summer, work began on the
remaining wing at that site. Construction work is in its closing
stages on much of the Rolland-Warner site heading to a 6:00 PM
August 27th public ribbon cutting and open house.
Final touches are
being done to the seventh and eighth grade wings of the
building. The sixth grade wing was completed last fall.
In addition to the
major building projects, a new parking lot is being installed at
Mayfield Elementary School and new furnishings are being
delivered to the same buildings currently undergoing renovations
and construction.
"It is an exciting
time to be a member of the Lapeer Community Schools as it builds
for the future," said Superintendent Debbie Thompson.
